چکیده

T he m ain objective o f this study was the com parison o f changes in levels o f a-tocopherol and ascorbate in needles o f spruce trees w ith various degrees o f dam age at three low m ountain sites. The ascorbate content in needles o f spruce trees w ith various degrees o f dam age differs in the course o f seasons as well as in the absolute level. The antiox idant status was affected m ain ly during summer. The content o f ascorbate in needles o f dam aged trees was significantly in creased com pared to th a t o f undam aged trees. Despite seasonal and daily fluctuations, the level o f ascorbate seems to be a good ind icator for the degree o f dam age in the case o f sym p tom s described as m ontane yellowing. T ogether with an increasing con ten t o f a-tocopherol per chlorophyll, a rise o f ascorbate con ten t indicates enhanced oxidative stress in the needles o f dam aged trees, particularly in summer. A sc/aToc ratios were increased in needles o f dam aged trees. A t the studied sites enhanced oxidative stress could be caused by the com bined action o f M g2+-deficiency, high ozone concentrations and high-light intensity, all inducing an increased production o f radicals in com bination with a reduced photosynthetic capacity.

Nutrient Dynamics and Decomposition rate of Norway Spruce Needles in Stråsan and Lajim stands

Climate changes due to changes in a habitat leads to differences in the rate of decomposition and nutrient dynamics of leaflitters, which has many effects on the controlling factors of the decomposition process. In the present study, the rate of decomposition and nutrient dynamics of Norway spruce was evaluated for 363 days in the two forestation sites in the natural and foreign habitats, ...

Seasonal Changes in the Activities of Apoplastic, Cytoplasmic, Ionically and Covalently Bound Isoperoxidases from Norway Spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) Needles: A Comparison between Three Collection Sites with Different Ambient Ozone Concentrations

Apoplastic, cytoplasmic, ionically and covalently bound isoperoxidases were investigated from needles o f Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and a pronounced genetic variability o f the isoenzyme pattern was found. The enzymatic activity o f each group o f isoperoxidases was determined between November 1989 to November 1990 from needles o f three locations (Velmerstot, Glindfeld, Haltern) ...

Effect of Three Therapeutic Methods of Exercise, Ozone, and Stem Cells on the MEF2C Expression and Myostatin Levels in Femoral Muscle Tissue of the Osteoarthritis Rats

Aims Myostatin and Myocyte Enhancer Factor 2C (MEF2C) are involved in muscle changes associated with bone problems. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of three therapeutic methods of exercise, ozone, and stem cells on MEF-2C gene expression and myostatin levels of femoral muscle tissue in osteoarthritis rats. Methods & Materials This experimental study was done on 63 male...

Cell structural changes in the mesophyll of Norway spruce needles by elevated ozone and elevated temperature in open-field exposure during cold acclimation.

The effects of elevated ozone (1.4× ambient) and temperature (ambient +1.3 °C) alone and in combination were studied on the needle cell structure of soil-grown Norway spruce seedlings in the late growing season and winter. Temperature treatment continued over winter and lengthened the snow-free period. Elevated temperature caused microscopic changes related to photosynthesis (decreased chloropl...

Seedling insensitivity to ozone for three conifer species native to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Field symptoms typical of ozone injury have been observed on several conifer species in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and tropospheric ozone levels in the Park can be high, suggesting that ozone may be causing growth impairment of these plants. The objective of this research was to test the ozone sensitivity of selected conifer species under controlled exposure conditions. Seedlings of t...
